The Devil
Element: Earth
Upright Meaning
You may be trapped in a pattern, addiction, or belief system that feels inescapable — but isn't. The Devil reveals the chains we choose without realizing it. Look honestly at what holds you. Notice that the chains are loose enough to remove. The power has been yours all along.
Reversed Meaning
Breaking free, reclaiming power, or confronting a shadow that has grown too large to ignore. Release is possible and near.
Symbolism & Story
The Devil — a goat-headed figure — sits on a half cube, a torch pointed downward in his hand. A man and a woman are chained to the cube below him, but their chains are loose. They have horns and tails — small ones, not yet fully formed. This is the early stage of corruption: not yet too late. The couple looks away from each other. The first step to freedom is looking clearly at what holds you.
